The Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients with mental health disorders in inpatient or outpatient psychiatric settings. The RN collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans. This role requires strong clinical skills, emotional resilience, and the ability to work effectively with patients experiencing psychiatric crises.
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and document patient histories and symptoms.
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans based on patients’ psychiatric and medical needs.
Administer medications, monitor for side effects, and educate patients about their treatments.
Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage aggressive or suicidal behaviors.
Monitor patient behavior, vital signs, and mental status regularly to ensure safety.
Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, coping mechanisms, and discharge plans.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of nursing care and patient progress.
Adhere to legal, ethical, and regulatory standards in psychiatric nursing practice.
Participate in staff meetings, in-service education, and professional development activities.
Promote a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State].
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) acceptable.
Experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing strongly preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) is a plus.
Strong communication, assessment, and crisis intervention skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, emotionally charged environment.
